Working With Our Body

Cannabinoids such as CBD work with the body to enable its natural innate healing processes.

All humans have a neuromodulatory system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which regulates the activity of other biological mechanisms such as our immune system, central nervous system, and hormonal system.

The function of the ECS is to maintain homeostasis (balance) within the body. CBD is believed to enhance the function of the ECS, and in doing so, contribute to the remediation of various imbalances within the body.

  • GPR55 is a receptor involved in pain control and inflammation. CBD may inhibit its activity to reduce inflammation.

  • TRP Channels mediate sensory stimuli. CBD and CBG may interact with them to provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.

  • Prostaglandins play a role in inflammation. CBG may reduce their production and therefore exhibit anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Cytokines are signalling proteins that control inflammation. Both CBD and CBG may lower levels of inflammatory cytokines.

  • Nuclear Transcription Factors regulate inflammation and cell survival, and CBD and CBG have demonstrated the ability to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, increase anti-inflammatory cytokines, and prevent cell damage and death.

  • T-type Calcium Channels impact nerve cell excitability. CBD and CBG may modulate their activity, potentially offering pain relief.

  • Voltage-Gated Sodium Channels are involved in pain sensing, and CBD and CBG inhibit them, potentially providing pain relief.

  • Adenosine, when activated, has anti-inflammatory effects, and CBD can influence its turnover, enhancing and prolonging its anti-inflammatory effects.

A Holistic Interaction

After releasing our CBD + CBG topical gel for pain & inflammation, multitudes of anecdotal feedback from our customers implied localised efficacy far greater than what we would expect from the interaction between cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system.

Collaborating with a world-leading research team at DevelRX, headed by Professor David Heal and Dr Sharon Smith, we have compiled a literature review which aims to explain how CBD + CBG topicals could exhibit efficacy as a natural remedy for pain & inflammation.

That review, titled “Non-clinical and clinical scientific evidence for CBD and CBG as topical treatments for pain and inflammation”, suggests the CBD & CBG have 8 modes of action which may contribute to their anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties [as shown in diagram].
